Conflicts : Analyzers of Family Relationship Configurations

Project type : National Research Programs (PNR)
Theme : Families, Women, Children, Elderly, and the Issue of Solidarity
Summary

The Algerian family is undergoing changes, and even upheavals, resulting from a profound societal transformation: a shift in socialization stakes, particularly the role of school in family education; a mutation in life trajectories and gender relations driven by the mass schooling of women and their professional activities; changes in the modes of entry into adulthood; and the diversification of family types through the emergence of single-parent or reconstituted families and female celibacy. These mutations re-examine the content and quality of social bonds within the family. Often, they generate conflicts whose consequences lead, in most cases, to the dislocation of family ties. Objects of conflict, management styles, and resolution negotiations are major indicators of these transformations. Studying conflicts allows for an understanding of how bonds are constructed within the family, as well as the stakes and meanings they carry. The national survey will verify whether conflicts aim to establish new forms of exchange between generations and within the same generation between sexes, where a major stake is to make these bonds more a matter of "individual will" than "social obligation."

Objectives:

Examine the nature and quality of the social bonds structuring the family.

Develop new action plans contributing to data production for the new family strategy established by the Ministry Delegate for Family and Women's Affairs in 2010, particularly in the field of interpersonal relationships.

Help stakeholders understand the reference models structuring current relationships within the family to intervene effectively in the process of resolving or adapting to intra-family difficulties and conflicts, in relation to Law 07-06 of 13/05/2007 concerning the management, protection, and development of green spaces.

Actions Taken / Planned:

Implementation of a survey.

Data analysis and interpretation.

Design and preparation of a publication titled "Family: The Stakes of Conflict."

Expected Results / Perspectives:
The results of this research will contribute to:

Better identifying new issues and establishing support mechanisms for families, parental education, and providing families with effective tools for understanding and management.

Proposing a curriculum for professional bachelor's degrees (LMD) with a profile of "Family Mediator."
