Identification, Presentation, and Translation of Foreign Historical Sources on Algeria and the Maghreb (16th–20th Centuries)

Project type : Institutional Projects (PE)
Theme : History and the Relationship with National Memory

Research problem

The one-year extension of our project enabled us to complete the consultation of additional foreign documentary sources, particularly those from Spain and Germany, directly related to the history and memory of Algeria from the early modern period to the nineteenth century.

As specialists in the Spanish and German languages, we continue the task and mission of identifying further specific foreign documentation related to our history, as well as presenting, analyzing, and translating it. This will subsequently allow specialists, researchers, historians, literary scholars, and students to use these materials in their respective fields.

The aim is also to identify original and little-known aspects of our history in order to provide new historical insights for a better understanding, and to integrate them into teaching modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Our objective is to continue the work of identifying and collecting documents of significant interest related to national history. This research represents, in our view, a substantial contribution to the discovery of new information preserved in the main archival collections and libraries of the countries concerned. It will therefore provide valuable material for study and research for scholars, universities, and institutions, and will be subject to further use, analysis, and evaluation by specialists in the field.
